Mathoor family is one of the oldest and most aristocratic Nair families of the Kerala State. Mathoor family with its 2000 plus family members around the globe, is the second largest family in Kerala.
The original roots of the family is from Malabar, where the founder of the family "Mathoor Panicker" migrated from Kozhikkode as per the request of the King of the "Chempakassery dynasty", centuries ago.
"Mathoor Bhagavathi", the family deity ("kuladevatha") is the main deity of the Mathoor temple located in the Alappuzha district.
